Are You Holding On To Hidden Fear

Helloooo, My Chocolate Sisters and Brothers!!!

Ummm, too much??? I pictured a kufi as soon as I got to the exclamation point 🤣🤣 but a simple Hello just didn't seem like enough today🥰🥰.

My youngest son has fallen several times going back and forth to school. Once getting on and off the bus and once on the stairs and I think one other time. He's totally fine but it got me thinking about all of us parents with special needs children.

There is a 😱😱 baseline fear 😱😱 level that we live with that is significantly higher than the average parent and I wanted to give light and space to those feelings today.

I don't know about you but I have had too many sleepless nights where I have been worried to the point of distraction. Those aren't the times I'm talking about though. I am talking about when we as parents are going about our day and doing some necessary task and our phone rings, it's the school, and we panic. We are instantly transported to the land of possibilities.

😨They just got to school. What could have happened already?

😨Is it a rogue behavior they can't snap out of?

😨Are they crying and need to be talked off the ledge?

😨Is it the nurse?

😨Did they hurt themselves..... again?

Lord, can I just get one day when everyone is alright?

In 2 seconds the blood pressure rises as all these thoughts and more transpire. It doesn't even matter what the phone call is about. Whether something small or something big. Our day was already interrupted. The panic has already set in. My brain is already in go mode.

Last week my youngest son’s school sent me an email stating that my son was not in attendance at school. I immediately panicked because I put him on the bus myself that morning.

My son is a wanderer so as you can imagine I was really upset even as I called the school. In the end, it was a simple error made by his classroom teacher clicking the wrong name when taking attendance. Though I was relieved after speaking with her, my heart was still beating a mile a minute when I hung up that phone.

You Are The Only You That You’ve Go

I don't have a remedy for this. It is the life we are all living because simply put, our children require more.

However the stress we carry just beyond the curtain of our public emotions is something that we shouldn't ignore. Engaging in activities such as yoga, a walk around the block, crochet, even video games, can really help to calm the nerves and and soothe the soul.

It is not good for our bodies to remain in a perpetual state of nervousness or fear. Many of us have been scared for so long that we don’t even realize we are anymore. My hand is raised…🤚🏾🤚🏾…both hands

Think of yoga as simply stretching and breathing. Try to remove all the bougieness and colorism that can come along with it. The practice has helped me for most of my adult life and I am sure that if you give it a try, it will help you too.

Remember, it’s not the completion of each pose perfectly that matters. It’s the calm and focused effort you make while breathing slowly in and out.
