Don’t Make Me Hurt You
Hi Chocolate Wonder!
I know the title is a little aggressive… I also know Valentine’s Day is tomorrow….. but hear me out. Today I feel like setting it on all non believers.
I hate when I am describing a behavior (because I was asked to) that my child is exhibiting while in the presence of a friend, family member or loved one and their reply to my explanation is "ALL KIDS DO THAT". 😠😡
My immediate internal reaction is....
“PLEASE DON’T MAKE ME HURT YOU!!!”📣📣📣📣
That is literally what crosses my mind and I make no apologies for that feeling.
You know why???
Because their reaction is ignorant, and in a lazy effort to make me feel better when I didn't ask them to, they actually insulted me and told me I was overreacting and what my child is doing is in fact not different.
You know what, you’re right. I'm wrong. The evaluators are wrong. The therapists are wrong. However you, who has not experienced my child as a parent and has not read a book or even a blog post on any topic that informs you on my child’s special needs, you with your unqualified self, are absolutely right.
Thanks for the revelation and the information. Would you like to babysit my four children with Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder and ADHD on Saturday night so you can solidify your theory????? SINCE ALL KIDS DO THAT!!! 😉🤣😁
My bad Chocolate Wonder. I just emotionally threw up on you. Can u tell this topic upsets me???
It’s because it happens too often. I resent having to endure that moment repeatedly. So I won't anymore. I am deciding right now to say something the next time it happens. I encourage you to do the same.
Don't let it rock. Let's do like on "Wildin Out" when they have the comedy rap battle and one if them says, " DJ DWrek CUT THE BEAT!" Let's stop the music and pause the conversation to inform them that they just hurt our feelings.
Not argue
Not justify
Not equate
Merely inform and turn left to a new topic.
I sincerely hope my words helped you today because you reading these words helped me. Thank you. People are a trip🧳🧳 . Don't let them take u on one. Out here in my feelings with no suitcase on a trip I didn't plan and they playing tour guide in a place they've never been. Stop it 🛑🤚🏾⛔🤚🏾🚫
Sometimes, many times, it feels like we have to absorb the crap end of conversations because it is our children who are different...... we don't. We have to become comfortable speaking up for ourselves.

You Are The Only You That You’ve Got
Today my last word is that in light of Valentine’s day approaching, we need to remember to love ourselves and our partners too. Part of showing love to yourself is not enduring uncomfortable conversations with people who don’t understand how to be neither sensitive nor quiet. In the above instance, our first concern should be preserving our heart, not their feelings. Remember, you are the one who is living the experience and absorbing other people’s ignorance to spare their feelings eventually will take its toll on you. Don’t be afraid to ‘cut the beat’ and make the music stop when you feel it’s necessary.

This week's resource is a timely one, and hopefully some fun too.
Here in Westchester it’s snowing and many schools have been canceled so I am here with all our four little ones. I am thinking we may do an activity from this video. Maybe it will help you to if you have your little ones at home today and are stuck for ideas..
