One Crisis At A Time…..
Hi Chocolate Wonder!
Just because there are parts of you that you can't give to your children right now doesn't mean it will always be that way. It's a moment. It’s important to remember that you are doing your best and this moment will pass, just like all the others. You may miss part of your routine because right now it requires something you can’t give. Its a temporary change in schedule, not a permanent shortcoming in your parental character.
The end of last year was difficult for my family. Between August and December, my husband lost both his Mom and one of his younger sisters unexpectedly. Although it made me sad, it knocked him off his feet. He is a superhero in my eyes and so to see him visibly shaken was difficult. We had to both adjust. He had to allow himself to slow down and process what was happening and I had to speed up to make sure the kids were affected as little as possible. We got and are continuing to get through it.
Some days, weeks or even seasons can be tough. Sometimes you need to take it one minute at a time. Or if something big has happened within your family circle, you may need to pull off the road of your routine and just take a minute to grasp what this moment in time requires from you.
Remember life happens to parents too and it's important to acknowledge it and adjust accordingly when it does. Remember we are prepping our kids for the real world. If we don’t handle the ebbs and flows of life appropriately, then how can they? That includes knowing when to say, “I need a minute’’.
I believe it is even more important for our children with special needs to be prepared for what life will bring than it is for typically developing children. But we can talk about that more another day.

You Are The Only You That You’ve Got
Today, My Final Word is a Prayer
Lord, Help us as parents to savor every precious moment that happens for both our families and us as individuals. Help us to be both present patient in the moments that are unpleasant so that we may successfully move through them. Help us to teach our children to do the same. Please comfort us when we don't know how to comfort ourselves, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
I have lots of plans for February and I am excited to include you in them. Thank you for taking a moment to read these words and pour back into you. I have lots to say about our kids but remember this is our journey too and this publication is primarily for us to use to rejuvenate ourselves, become part of a community and make finding resources easier.
Speaking of resources, I have 2 this week…

Gigi is our parental reminder not to set limits on our little ones no matter what the paperwork says. I worry about how my little ones will navigate this world and this video was encouraging.
This next resource is going to be helpful if you always feel unprepared at your child’s annual review meeting. I have been there and still am there sometimes. I have taken a different course at WIHD before and it was well put together and very helpful. If you need the help then it is worth making the time. P.S. This is a free class.
