What Keeps You From Quitting

Hello, My Chocolate Wonders!

Last time I checked there is no way to resign from motherhood. Can you imagine? Leaving a well thought out and well reasoned note on the kitchen table explaining why this is not the right position for you? Hilarious and scary all at the same time.

Can You Imagine?

We love our children and are in it for the long haul. But just because we don’t walk off the job and stop being mothers, fathers, and caretakers doesn't mean we don't check out mentally.

Have you ever checked out? Have you ever been going through the motions with no real effort or drive for excellence but just an,’ I’m here so don’t complain’ attitude? I have. Overwhelm does that to me. I have to pay attention to when my overwhelmed meter goes into the red. Overwhelm is different for everyone. For me, it’s when I feel like I am already doing my best yet the list of things to do is not getting smaller, and real deadlines are now at risk. It’s like having too many windows open in my mind. I have to close something or cross something out as being complete or I go into shut-down mode. Why? Because I don’t see a win. All I see is the continuation of the hamster wheel spinning and for me, circular motion without forward trajectory is an emotional dead end.

This morning was super challenging.

My oldest has state exams today and his bus was so late I almost had to drive him to school. My youngest son was in tears about his outfit today and it took all my energy as well as my husband’s to negotiate, and plead and coerce him into choosing an appropriate clothing option that was not in violation of his well established rigid dress code. I then drove him to school only for us to arrive just in time to be late.  My twins were unemotional this morning and did their best (thank you Lord) but we realized when we arrived at school one of their bookbags was NOT IN THE CAR!!! So I dropped them off and then doubled back home and picked up the bookbag.

Who am I ?

What is my name?

Where do I live again?

I thought I was going to burst!!!

I walked to my car after dropping off my little one’s bookbag this morning and I said to God, “Please help. Help me Lord. I have nothing left.”

I need God because without Him I know for a fact I would not have made it this far and probably would not want to continue this journey. His help, helps. I am here typing these words to you because He helped me to refocus and push just a little bit more to complete the things I have committed to.

My point is … I need Him.. He is how I don’t quit. Real talk.

What do you believe?

Who do you turn to in order to gain strength?

How do you defeat overwhelm and stay motivated?

You Are The Only You That You’ve Go

I am not here to convince you to believe in one thing or another but I am definitely here to say that you need something larger than you to pull on and draw from in times when you have nothing left to give. You need a spiritual system of replenishment or all the me time in the world will not do what is supposed to do. Me time helps your mind and body, however, your spirit and soul need special attention in order to run this race to the finish. I choose to trust my spirit and soul to Christ who has never failed me. However, if that is not for you please, it’s all good, choose a belief system that serves you and can do what you need it to do on command. Your overall health depends on it.

This song helped me get through my morning. I hope it will help you too!

Also, I am still working on a resource for you that will help your IEP meeting for your little ones go smoother and be less stressful.
