Don’t Judge Me….

That’s what I’m thinking more times than I care to admit. Whether I am talking to my children’s teachers, dealing with administration, being ogled by the general public when out with the family or even when looking at myself in the mirror.

So much of my life deals with and confronts assumptions made my people who are not in my shoes as well as navigating uncomfortable situations. I started this publication as a place where I could share my experience and hopefully help other black Moms who have special needs children to navigate this uncharted experience.

I am a black mom with four children who have autism. There is no textbook to consult. I am out here freestylin' like a rapper in front of a corner store who has just been challenged to a verbal duel. I'm rapping for my life pulling words and phrases out of nowhere .... every... single... day. Living under the pressure that if I don't bring my best I will be embarrassed in full view of my peers, judged without mercy and cast out of the cypher because my rhymes don't sound like theirs.

There is a good reason for that. My experience is not like theirs. Our parental experience as moms of children who are different has taken us on the road less traveled and most feared. That changes you.

I am always learning because my life is always teaching. So sometimes you'll hear me refer to something I learned in that week that I'd like to share with you. ..... My Lightbulb Moment 💡💡

Here's the first one ..... drum roll please...😊😊

This Week's Light Bulb Moment

This week I realized I don't have to win every battle. It's more important to choose your battles. Sometimes there will be fights that you can win but it will take so much effort, time and energy, that the net sum is a loss, once calculated. So I guess I also learned how to choose my battles. I have to remember to ask myself...... IS IT WORTH IT????

(More to come)

If you would like to hear more more about the specific situation that brought about the Lightbulb Moment then come back next Tuesday and I got you!!

(Did I just do my first teaser??? Go Meee!! ❤️😍😍❤️ )

You Are The Only You That You’ve Got

This space is not just about me. Its about you too. If what I said above was real to you hit reply insert an emoji that will make me smile, but only after you read this:

You don’t have to be anyone but who you are. You received the assignment of parenting a child or children with special needs. You are doing your best to fulfill the assignment. If there is no handbook then there can be no measuring stick. I am going to say that again. ….

If there is no handbook then there can be no measuring stick. Please put the ruler down and stop measuring yourself against other parents and DO YOU BOO BOO!

I may not know you but I love you and want the best for you.

See you next Tuesdayyyyyyyy 😍😍😍😍

Please forward this email to a black parent who could benefit from it.
